It is the largest satellite in Jupiter and probably the largest in the entire solar system.

It has a diameter of 5,276 km (the diameter of our Moon is 3,476 km), a mass of approximately twice the mole and a density of 1.9. It is in orbit at a distance of just over a million km from Jupiter.

According to American scholars, who have analyzed it closely thanks to the missions of the two Voyager, Ganymede would be an immense ball of mud covered by a thick layer of ice.
